Introducing Matric-Tech in Formal Education

P&D Wing is also assigned to get the Matric-Tech scheme implemented, which is being done under the project titled: ‘Introducing Matric-Tech Pathways for Integrating Technical and Vocational Education and Training and Formal Education.’ by NAVTTC in collaboration with Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), concerned TVET and general education departments of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The scheme of PKR 315 million is being piloted to enroll overall 1,500 students in 15 schools including (i) 700 trainees in 07 schools of ICT, (ii) 400 trainees in 04 schools of Gilgit Baltistan, and (iii) 400 trainees in 04 schools of AJK. This project has been designed for 03 years (2019-22). During the 1st year workshops/laboratories of specific technologies would be established and students’ enrollment would take place in class 9th with start of new academic session. Primarily, the operations of the project will be looked after by NAVTTC by virtue of which the laboratories/workshops would be established in public sector institutes/schools/colleges of general education and their operations would be fully supported for three year period of the project. Subsequently, the established facilities and other technological provisions would be handed-over to partner public institutes/schools/colleges and the concerned governing public departments, agencies, authorities after completion of the project.

Public sector schools/colleges for this project to be selected based on their technical competencies to provide infrastructure for establishing the required laboratories/workshops to impart skill development training to youth as per requirements of NVQF and Matric-Tech in addition to formal education subjects. For piloting Matric-tech, the institutes shall be recommended by the concerned Authority like Federal Directorate of Education, etc.

All procurements, etc. for establishing the laboratories/workshops shall be carried out by NAVTTC under the applicable laws. For three year, the training cost including (i) remuneration to instructional staff, non-instructional staff, laboratory attendants, (ii) cost of overheads, (iii) consumables, (iv) visibility, and related costs etc. will be provided by NAVTTC.

Matric-Tech scheme has covered trades like (i) construction sector (CPEC and energy sector) including machinery operation, (ii) building services including electrician, plumbing, carpentering, Refrigeration and AC R&M, etc., (iii) hotel management and tourism (cooking, baking, professional chef), (iv) fashion design and dress making, and (v) communication and information technology (CIT)
